Sew-On Velcro

This is great to have on-hand for projects. I prefer sew-on Velcro because it lasts over time and through the wash. Do not try to sew stick-on Velcro on your machine or you will likely ruin your needle!

Double Fold Bias Tape

I love using this on projects for easy finishing. Use it for keyrings, lining edges, adding contrast. In this project, this lines the edges and makes the tote straps in minutes.

Step‑by‑Step Sewing Tutorial

  1. Cut the materials as listed on the measurement chart:
    • Mesh (9 inches x 16 inches)
    • 4 strips of bias tape (9 inches each)
    • 2 strips of bias tape (7 inches each)
    • Front and back of Velcro (cut to 0.75 x 0.75 inches)
  2. Stitch both edges of each 7" bias‑tape to form handles (stitch down the long edges).
  3. Sandwich one 9" edge of mesh between a 9" bias‑tape; place handle ends at 3" from each side; clip and sew.
  4. Fold handles up; sew again to secure.
  5. Repeat for mesh’s opposite side.
  6. Attach Velcro squares, centered 4.5" from mesh edge, aligned with bias tape edge.
  7. Fold mesh in half, align, and encase folded edges between remaining bias tapes—allowing 0.5" to fold over raw edges.
  8. Sew along inner and outer tape edges, neatly enclosing seams.
  9. Fill the finished bag with bath toys—stylish, tidy, and airy!

Additional Uses for Your Mesh Bag

  • Wet swimwear sack—hang it up to let chlorine and water drip away.
  • Toy drying tote—ideal for kitchen, laundry, or outdoor toys.
  • Laundry delicates bag—safe, breathable storage for lingerie or small garments.
